Telangana Government Clears Two DA Instalments Ahead of Dasara
The Telangana government has brought festive cheer to its employees and pensioners by approving two pending instalments of Dearness Allowance (DA) ahead of Dasara. The government has issued orders releasing the DA due for January and July 2024, with the two instalments together resulting in a 6.27 per cent increase in employees’ salaries.
The decision is expected to provide relief to a large number of state government employees and pensioners who had been awaiting the release of the pending DA for a considerable period. The government has also outlined the schedule for payment of the revised allowance and the accumulated arrears.
The enhanced DA will be included in the October salary, which means employees and pensioners will receive the increased amount in their bank accounts from November 1. The move will increase the monthly earnings of eligible employees, while pensioners will also benefit from the corresponding revision in their allowance.
Along with the revised payments, the government has decided to clear the DA arrears accumulated from the two pending instalments. According to the orders, the arrears will be credited to the General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts of eligible employees.
The implementation of both DA instalments is expected to place an additional financial burden of around Rs 2,500 crore annually on the Telangana government. Despite the additional expenditure, the decision clears a long-pending issue concerning the financial benefits due to government employees and pensioners.
A separate payment mechanism has been announced for employees covered under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The arrears relating to the first DA instalment will be paid in 33 instalments, while the arrears linked to the second instalment will be cleared in 27 instalments.
The government’s latest orders have effectively paved the way for the implementation of the two pending DA revisions. The move is expected to bring some financial relief to employees and pensioners, particularly with the enhanced allowance being reflected in the October salary payments.
With the release of the orders, the long-pending January and July 2024 DA instalments will now move into the implementation stage, providing clarity on both the revised payments and the settlement of arrears.
