In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Telangana’s specialised anti-drug unit EAGLE Force seized 450 kg of ganja and arrested five accused in two separate operations conducted in Khammam and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts, officials said. The latest action is part of the state government’s intensified drive against organised drug networks and substance abuse.

According to the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) , the operations were carried out on May 16 following intelligence inputs regarding the movement of ganja consignments through key transit routes in the state.

In the first operation in Khammam , EAGLE personnel apprehended three alleged suppliers and recovered 100 kg of ganja from their possession. In another case registered in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri , two accused were arrested while allegedly transporting 350 kg of ganja , taking the total seizure to 450 kg.

Officials said the force is targeting both the supply chain and consumer network as part of Telangana’s “ Zero Tolerance – Total Surveillance ” anti-drug policy. Besides the arrests and seizures, authorities also identified 12 drug consumers in two separate cases and shifted them to de-addiction centres for counselling and rehabilitation.

Investigators believe Telangana’s highway corridors and district transit routes are increasingly being used by interstate drug syndicates to move narcotics from neighbouring states into urban markets. Enforcement agencies have recently stepped up monitoring of courier services, transport channels, and digital payment networks linked to trafficking operations.

The EAGLE Force, established as a dedicated anti-narcotics enforcement wing, has been conducting regular raids across Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Warangal, Khammam, and other districts against ganja, MDMA, LSD, and synthetic drug networks.

Officials also highlighted the government’s rehabilitation-focused approach, noting that Telangana recently established 35 Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) centres across districts to provide counselling, detoxification, and treatment services for substance abuse victims.
