Telangana deputy CM urges MPs to push BC reservation bill in parliament

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has called on the state’s MPs to strongly advocate for a bill providing 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) during the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

In a meeting held at Pragati Bhavan on Thursday with MPs from all parties, Bhatti urged that the bill be moved for inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to protect it from legal challenges. He asked MPs to ensure the issue is raised either through the adjournment motion or during the question hour. Bhatti also suggested that MPs collectively submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and, if needed, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy would personally accompany the delegation to Delhi.

The Telangana Legislative Assembly has already passed two BC reservation bills this year, which are pending the President’s approval. Highlighting the need to bypass legal hurdles arising from exceeding the 50% reservation limit, Bhatti said immediate steps should be taken to include the bills in the Ninth Schedule. A special cell has been set up in Delhi to provide MPs with real-time updates on pending issues concerning the state. Bhatti emphasized that MPs should unite beyond party lines to protect Telangana’s interests, echoing the message from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

The meeting also resolved that MPs should collectively push the central government on 47 key pending issues affecting the state. These include funding and clearances related to electricity, irrigation, GST, and other departments. Bhatti noted that a comprehensive list of pending issues across 12 central ministries has been prepared and MPs must press for speedy resolution. Discussions also covered key initiatives such as establishing semiconductor industries and other major projects.

Bhatti further announced that on December 9, marking two years of the current government, a document highlighting government achievements and the “Vision 2047” plan would be released. A detailed roadmap to expand Telangana’s economy to $3 trillion is also ready, and MPs showing interest are encouraged to participate in global summit committees.

The meeting made it clear that all parties must stand united for the state’s rights. Bhatti expressed confidence that this unified approach would help resolve pending issues quickly. Attending the meeting were Congress MPs Mallu Ravi, Balaram Naik, Suresh Shetkar, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, and BJP MP M. Raghunandan Rao, among others.
