Telangana colleges shut from Sept 15

The education sector in Telangana is facing another crisis as professional colleges across the state have announced an indefinite shutdown from September 15. The call for the bandh was given by the Federation of Higher Education Institutions (FHEI), representing engineering, MBA, MCA, pharmacy, and nursing colleges.

The federation said the protest is against the state government’s negligence in clearing huge pending dues. Nearly ₹12,000+ crore worth of fee reimbursement and scholarship funds are yet to be released. College management warned that the financial crisis has reached a point where even staff salaries cannot be paid, leaving them with no option but to halt operations.

FHEI leaders recently submitted a memorandum to the Chairman of the Telangana Council of Higher Education, demanding immediate release of funds. They cautioned that unless the arrears are cleared, the functioning of institutions will become unsustainable.

The bandh is likely to impact nearly 10 lakh students across Telangana, halting classes, exams, and internships. Student unions have also extended support, accusing the government of ignoring repeated pleas.

College management declared that September 15, observed as Engineers’ Day, will instead be marked as a “Black Day” until the funds are released.
