Telangana CM Questions Opposition Silence on Minor Girl Case Involving BJP Leader’s Son

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday sharpened his attack on both the BRS and the BJP over the controversial POCSO case involving Bandi Sai Bhagirath , questioning why former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had chosen to remain silent on an issue concerning a minor girl.

Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy said the silence of the state’s principal opposition leader was deeply disappointing. He remarked that even if KCR was unwilling to appear before the media, he could have at least issued a statement expressing solidarity with the victim. The Chief Minister alleged that while BRS leaders were actively pursuing political strategies and defections, they had failed to respond to a matter involving the safety and dignity of a minor.

The Chief Minister also dismissed claims made by Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar that his son had voluntarily cooperated with investigators. Revanth Reddy stated that Bhagirath was arrested during a police checking operation and not through a planned surrender. He maintained that the government was relying strictly on official police information and made it clear that the law would take its own course regardless of political influence.

Revanth Reddy further recalled earlier allegations that the victim and her family had faced intimidation and extortion threats. He said the case was serious and should not be diluted through political narratives or social media campaigns.

Launching a fresh offensive against the BRS, the Chief Minister accused the party of indulging in “ shameless politics ” by circulating photographs of the victim and her family online. He said such actions were not only unethical but also violated the spirit of laws meant to protect minors in sensitive cases. According to him, the opposition was attempting to politicise the issue solely to target the Congress government.

The Chief Minister also defended the government’s actions in another high-profile investigation linked to alleged drug-related activity at a farmhouse associated with a relative of K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) . He said notices were issued strictly according to legal procedure and questioned why the BRS leadership had failed to act in earlier cases involving allegations against its own leaders.

Beyond the political controversy, Revanth Reddy accused the BRS of deliberately disrupting the state’s ongoing paddy procurement operations . He alleged that opposition workers were obstructing the unloading of grain from trucks at procurement centres in an attempt to create unrest among farmers. Calling it an “ organised crime against farmers ,” he said the government had already completed nearly 80 percent of grain procurement successfully.

He clarified that temporary delays in procurement were largely due to labour shortages after workers from West Bengal returned to their home state during Assembly elections there.

Turning his criticism towards the Centre, Revanth Reddy also accused the Narendra Modi-led government of manipulating fuel prices for political reasons. He claimed fuel rates were kept stable during election periods and increased immediately after polls concluded, arguing that such decisions exposed the Centre’s politically driven approach to economic management.
