
Telangana CM Plans World-Class Sports Infrastructure and Talent Development
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday directed officials to prepare ambitious plans for sports development in the state, aiming to host the Olympics and Commonwealth Games and produce athletes capable of winning international medals .
During a meeting with ministers and senior officials, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for world-class infrastructure , including the proposed Young India Sports University , which will nurture emerging talent. He also instructed upgrades to existing facilities such as GMC Balayogi Stadium and Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium in Hyderabad, ensuring they meet international standards for training and competitions.
Telangana has been steadily building its sports infrastructure , with modern stadiums, indoor arenas, and training centres across cities like Hyderabad, Warangal, and Karimnagar. The state government has also supported grassroots programs, encouraging participation in football, athletics, badminton, and cricket.
The state has produced several notable sportspersons , including P. V. Sindhu , Olympic medal-winning badminton player; Sania Mirza , Grand Slam-winning tennis star; and Arjun Janya , a rising athlete in national track and field competitions. These athletes exemplify Telangana’s potential to succeed on the global stage .
State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy , Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari , and other officials attended the meeting, discussing actionable steps to improve training programs, sports education, and talent management .
The Chief Minister’s directives aim to position Telangana as a major sports hub , attracting international events and creating opportunities for young athletes while also boosting tourism and economic activity linked to sports.
