Telangana CM Pitches Green Steel Project, Net-Zero Hyderabad by 2034

With the aim of positioning Telangana as an international industrial hub, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a key meeting in Delhi with Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy and Minister of State Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma , presenting several proposals for the state’s industrial advancement.

The Chief Minister urged the Centre to establish a state-of-the-art “Green Steel Plant” at Bayyaram in Mahabubabad district. He explained that the project would not only help reduce the country’s steel shortage but also significantly benefit the environment. The proposal is part of the Telangana Rising 2047 vision . He highlighted that using scrap from old vehicles for steel recycling would boost production while promoting environmental sustainability. He added that Telangana’s infrastructure and technological capabilities can substantially contribute to national industrial goals.

Revanth Reddy also proposed the development of a Green Steel Cluster with Hyderabad as its hub. He stressed the need to promote steel manufacturing based on hydrogen technology and called for the establishment of production units catering to the automobile and defence sectors . In view of the growing adoption of electric vehicles, he emphasised the need for an EV battery manufacturing facility .

Further, he requested the Centre to set up a dedicated park for future technologies , including machine tools and robotics manufacturing. As part of the vision to transform Hyderabad into a net-zero city by 2034 , he sought central support for transitioning vehicles to electric mobility. He also proposed the establishment of national-level skill development institutions in Hyderabad to meet the demands of advanced industries.

The meeting was attended by Telangana BJP MP K. Laxman , Union Ministers Ram Mohan Naidu and Pemmasani Chandrasekhar , along with TDP MPs, Andhra Pradesh Minister Payyavula Keshav , and Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju . Discussions reportedly also touched upon national politics, upcoming electoral strategies, and inter-state coordination .
