Telangana boosts farmer welfare with Rythu Nestham seed distribution launch

The Telangana government marked a significant milestone in its agricultural agenda with the launch of the subsidized seed distribution program under the Rythu Nestham initiative on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Secretariat. The initiative will provide 5,825 quintals of high-quality Bengal gram seeds, 83.78 quintals of hybrid tilhan tech-sunh-1 sunflower seeds, and 74 quintals of safflower seeds, backed by a Rs 45.41 lakh subsidy. This follows the recent distribution of groundnut seeds, reflecting a strategic push to diversify crops beyond the traditional rice focus. The launch coincides with the start of cotton procurement, with 317 ginning mills notified by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), a public sector entity under the Ministry of Textiles. The CCI’s Kapas Kisan app has registered over 2.1 million farmers, enabling slot-based sales that enhance transparency a system inspired by Andhra Pradesh’s biometric seed distribution model, which reduced malpractices by 30% since 2019.
