Amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia and growing concerns over global economic instability, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday extended strong support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘seven appeals’ aimed at protecting India’s foreign exchange reserves and strengthening economic resilience.

Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Ramchander Rao said the Prime Minister’s appeal comes at a crucial time when several countries are facing economic stress due to volatile fuel prices, disrupted supply chains and inflationary pressures triggered by international conflicts. He stressed that citizens must act responsibly and support measures intended to reduce unnecessary financial burden on the country.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s suggestions, the BJP leader said people should avoid non-essential foreign travel , reduce excessive gold purchases , conserve fuel and encourage the use of locally produced goods. He noted that such measures would help India preserve valuable foreign exchange reserves at a time when import bills, particularly for crude oil and gold, remain high.

“Many nations are witnessing fuel rationing and sharp price rises, but India has managed the situation comparatively better because of timely policy decisions,” Ramchander Rao said. However, he added that continued public cooperation would be necessary to maintain economic stability if global tensions persist.

He also highlighted the country’s heavy dependence on imports such as chemical fertilisers , stating that reducing their usage could lower foreign exchange expenditure while simultaneously benefiting the environment. Encouraging sustainable agricultural practices and reducing import dependency, he said, are key components of the Centre’s long-term economic strategy.

During the interaction, Ramchander Rao criticised Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for questioning the Prime Minister’s appeals. He alleged that previous Congress governments had introduced austerity measures even during relatively stable economic periods and accused the Opposition of politicising a national economic concern.

The BJP leader said the Centre’s broader objective is to promote self-reliance , responsible consumption and financial discipline at the household level. He urged citizens to support the Prime Minister’s call, describing it as a precautionary step to shield the Indian economy from external shocks and ensure long-term stability.
