Telangana BJP Fires Back at Revanth Reddy’s Social Media Post on Rahul Gandhi

The Telangana BJP has hit back at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over a social media post in which he shared a video featuring a stand-up comedian praising Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Revanth Reddy shared the video on his X account on Monday, accompanied by the caption, “Rahul... Naam toh suna hoga” (Rahul... you must have heard the name). The post quickly drew a response from the BJP, turning the social media exchange into another political flashpoint between the two parties in Telangana.

Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao responded by sharing a comedy sequence from a Telugu film on X. He captioned the clip, “No Rahul was harmed.” The scene features a heroine jokingly teasing the male character and making humorous references to the name Rahul in a college setting. In the dialogue, she quips that his computer has been affected by “Rahul” and advises him to use “anti-Rahul software.”

The BJP’s response came against the backdrop of a wider controversy over a comedy performance involving Rahul Gandhi and stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani at the Chhatron Ki Goonj programme in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday.

A video shared by the Congress showed Mani performing alongside Rahul Gandhi while mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the act, the comedian walked onto the stage, embraced Rahul Gandhi and interacted with him as part of the performance.

The skit drew criticism from BJP leaders the following day, with the use of the Prime Minister’s name in the political satire becoming a particular point of contention. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also reacted to the performance and directed criticism at Rahul Gandhi.

Goyal referred to Rahul Gandhi as an “asanskari naraz phupha” and questioned the manner in which the Prime Minister was portrayed during the performance. He also suggested that Rahul Gandhi should reflect on the episode.

The controversy subsequently spilled into Telangana, with Revanth Reddy’s social media post and Ramchander Rao’s counter-post adding a state-level dimension to the political exchange. The two posts have since triggered discussion among political circles, highlighting how social media content and political satire continue to fuel sharp exchanges between the Congress and BJP.
