Telangana bandh today in support of BC reservations

A state-wide bandh has been called today by the BC Associations Joint Action Committee (JAC) to demand the protection of reservations for Backward Classes (BCs). Ahead of the bandh, leaders from multiple political parties and community organizations participated in a solidarity rally in Hyderabad.

The rally began at Basheerbagh and continued to the Ambedkar statue on Tank Bund. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring 42% reservations for BCs in local bodies. Major political parties - including the Congress, BJP, BRS, and Telangana Jagruthi - have expressed full support for the bandh.

BC Ikya Vedika Chairman R. Krishnaiah, Telangana Jana Samithi president Prof. Kodandaram, MRPS founder Manda Krishna Madiga, MLC Addanki Dayakar, and BC Ikya Vedika Working Chairman Jajula Srinivas Goud were among the prominent leaders who took part.

During the rally, leaders demanded that BC reservations be included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution through a legal amendment to ensure their protection. They emphasized that since BCs constitute more than half of the population, the central government has a responsibility to safeguard their rightful share.

They also appealed to people across Telangana - cutting across party lines and organizations - to participate in today’s bandh and show solidarity with the cause of BC rights.
