Telangana Andhra Pradesh Weather Today: Heat Persists As IMD Predicts Thunderstorm Shift

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are set to witness a gradual shift in weather conditions today as the India Meteorological Department signals the beginning of a transition from a prolonged dry and hot spell to isolated thunderstorm activity later this week. According to the Meteorological Centre Hyderabad, Telangana experienced mostly dry conditions through July 14, with Nalgonda recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 38.9 degrees Celsius, while Hyderabad's Charminar area touched 37.4 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecast that conditions across Telangana will begin changing from today, with a cloudy sky expected to persist over Hyderabad until July 18 and light rain likely on July 16 and 17. Strong surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph are very likely at isolated pockets across all districts of the state through the coming week, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in isolated places.

The Southwest Monsoon trough, extending from a cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh through East Madhya Pradesh, East Vidarbha and Telangana down to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, continues to influence weather patterns over the twin Telugu states. Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Telangana through July 20, with more organised thunderstorm activity expected between July 16 and 19 as humidity levels rise. Temperatures across the state are expected to ease gradually by two to three degrees once the wetter phase sets in, though heatwave-like conditions have persisted in several northern and eastern districts in recent days.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Amaravati Meteorological Centre has forecast isolated heatwave conditions in pockets of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam through today, alongside hot and humid weather expected to continue in the region during July 16 and 17. Rayalaseema is likely to witness similar humid conditions from July 15 to 17. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from today through July 20, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph forecast at isolated places across the state. Rayalaseema too is likely to see isolated to scattered rain during the same period, continuing the pattern of localised showers rather than widespread rainfall.

Fishermen along the Andhra Pradesh coast and residents in thunderstorm prone districts of both states have been advised by the weather department to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during lightning activity and stay updated with district level bulletins. While immediate relief from the heat remains limited today, meteorologists expect the monsoon trough to strengthen gradually, setting the stage for more widespread rain over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the days ahead. A low pressure area is also being tracked over the Bay of Bengal for the July 21 to 25 window, though current indications suggest it may track towards north central India rather than directly influencing the Telugu states.
