Tejas Networks wins deal to supply 5G massive MIMO radios
Tejas Networks has won a strategic NEC contract to supply 5G massive MIMO radios , strengthening India’s 5G supply chain and boosting the “Make in India” initiative in high-tech telecom manufacturing. The deal marks a significant milestone in Tejas’ international expansion and positions the company as a key player in the global 5G ecosystem.
Massive MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radios are advanced base station antennas that use many antenna elements to transmit and receive multiple data streams simultaneously, significantly enhancing network capacity, coverage, and speed . These radios are critical for dense urban and mid-band 5G deployments worldwide, including in countries such as China, South Korea, the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, where vendors like Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, and NEC dominate. Tejas’ radios are fully O-RAN compliant , offering flexible, interoperable solutions for global operators.
Under the pact, Tejas will manufacture NEC-designed equipment for NEC’s global customers , helping diversify supply chains while expanding Tejas’ presence in international markets. Masayuki Kayahara, Corporate Senior VP of NEC’s Global Network Division, said the collaboration enhances supply-chain resilience and reliability. Arnob Roy, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Tejas Networks, said the partnership accelerates carrier-class product development and co-creation of advanced 5G/5G-Advanced solutions. Sanjay Malik, Chief Strategy and Business Officer, said Tejas plans to replicate this success across 4G and 5G mobile networks in emerging and developed markets.
The announcement triggered a sharp market reaction, with Tejas shares surging nearly 12% intraday . Analysts say the deal can help rebuild Tejas’ order pipeline and support revenue growth after a recent steep decline. Potential markets include Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, where 5G rollouts are accelerating. The partnership is also expected to create jobs in manufacturing and R&D , reinforcing India’s technology and industrial capabilities under Make in India.
