India's teenage badminton prodigy Tanvi Sharma continued her meteoric rise by capturing her first-ever BWF World Tour title, defeating Vietnam's sixth seed Thuy Linh Nguyen in straight games to win the Taipei Open Super 300 women's singles crown on Sunday.

The 17-year-old from Punjab delivered a composed and attacking display, wrapping up the final in just 36 minutes with a convincing 21-16, 21-16 victory. The triumph marks the biggest achievement of her young career and further establishes her as one of India's brightest hopes in international badminton.

Training under Park Tae-sang, the former coach of Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, Tanvi has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past two seasons. Her aggressive style, confidence under pressure and consistency have made her one of the most exciting young players on the world circuit.

The victory is especially significant after she finished runner-up at the 2025 US Open Super 300, narrowly missing out on a maiden World Tour title. She has also reached the finals of the Odisha Masters and Guwahati Masters, steadily building her reputation with a series of impressive performances.

A former World Junior No. 1, Tanvi had already created history by becoming the first Indian to win two medals at a single World Junior Championships, claiming silver in girls' singles and bronze in the mixed team event. She was also part of the Indian squad that secured the country's first-ever gold medal at the Asian Team Championships.

Her latest triumph adds another milestone to an already impressive resume. At 17 years and 222 days, Tanvi became the youngest finalist in Taipei Open history, surpassing Korean badminton great Lee Yong Dae's long-standing record set in 2006.

With this breakthrough title and a place among the world's top 35, Tanvi Sharma has taken another giant step towards becoming India's next global badminton superstar.
