Teen dies after treatment by unlicensed practitioner in Hyd

A 16-year-old boy died after undergoing treatment for piles at a clinic run by an unlicensed practitioner in Hyderabad. Police have registered a case following a complaint from the boy’s mother, who alleged negligence in providing care to her son.

The deceased was a second-year intermediate student. According to police, he received treatment for piles on November 12, but continued to experience bleeding and other complications. His mother stated that despite repeated visits to the same clinic, his condition worsened, and he developed fever and severe health issues.

Eventually, the clinic staff referred the boy to a private hospital, and later to another medical facility. On the evening of November 22, he was admitted to a government hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Police have registered a case under Section 106 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with death caused by negligence. The clinic operator reportedly claimed that he learned the treatment methods from his predecessors, and his wife assisted him during the procedures. Authorities said a full investigation is underway, including scrutiny of the unlicensed nature of the treatment. The family is demanding justice.

This incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over unlicensed medical practitioners in Telangana. The Telangana Medical Council estimates that nearly 50,000 unqualified individuals are providing medical treatment across the state, many of them operating in Hyderabad.

Recently, Telangana Medical Council Survey (TMCS) teams conducted inspections in several areas of the city, identifying and shutting down five illegal clinics. Dozens more are reportedly under the process of being closed. Health authorities have issued warnings to the public to avoid seeking treatment from unauthorized practitioners.
