Thousands of employees at US-based technology giant Oracle have reportedly lost their jobs in India as part of a large global restructuring exercise. According to impacted staff, around 12,000 employees in India have been laid off , with another round of layoffs expected within the next month.

The development comes amid a wider global workforce reduction at the company. Reports suggest about 30,000 employees worldwide have been affected , making it one of the largest recent layoffs in the technology sector.

People familiar with the situation said employees across multiple departments were informed that their roles had become redundant following organisational changes. In an email to staff, the company said it had decided to “streamline operations” , which resulted in certain positions being eliminated.

Oracle currently employs around 30,000 people in India , including those who were affected in the recent layoffs. The company, however, has declined to officially comment on the retrenchment.

Employees who were impacted have been offered a severance package. According to internal communication, the compensation includes 15 days’ salary for every year of service , payment for the one-month notice period , leave encashment , and gratuity where applicable . The company has also offered an additional two months’ salary as a top-up . However, this severance package is available only for employees who voluntarily and amicably resign from their positions.

Meanwhile, some former employees have raised concerns about working conditions within the company. Merugu Sridhar , an ex-Oracle employee, claimed he had previously been laid off after raising objections about long working hours, including alleged 16-hour shifts in the Indian operations.

Sridhar also claimed that several Indian employees working for Oracle in the United States were affected , citing strict local labour regulations governing layoffs in that country.

The layoffs reflect a broader trend across the global technology sector, where companies are restructuring operations, cutting costs, and adjusting their workforce amid evolving market conditions and increasing automation.

With another potential round of job cuts expected soon, uncertainty continues to loom over thousands of employees in Oracle’s India operations.
