In a disturbing case of alleged corporal punishment, a sixth-grade student in Punganur, Chittoor district, has suffered a skull fracture. The incident came to light after the 11-year-old girl, identified as Satvika Nagasri, endured severe headaches for three days following the assault.

According to her family, on September 10, Satvika's Hindi teacher, Saleema Basha, allegedly struck her on the head with a school bag as punishment for making noise in class. The girl's mother, Vijetha, who also works as a science teacher at the same private school, initially did not perceive the seriousness of the injury, assuming it was a minor disciplinary action. However, when Satvika’s condition worsened and the persistent headache prevented her from attending school for three days, her parents became alarmed.

They first took her to a private hospital in Punganur, where doctors, suspecting a serious internal injury, advised them to seek advanced medical care. The family then traveled to a private hospital in Bengaluru. There, a medical scan confirmed their worst fears: the child had a fractured skull. This shocking diagnosis prompted immediate medical treatment and an official response.

Late on Monday, the victim's mother and relatives went to the local police station to file a formal complaint against both the teacher and the school management. Punganur police have since registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter. The incident has sparked outrage among parents and the local community, raising serious questions about the safety of children in schools and the use of corporal punishment. Local authorities are under pressure to take strict action against those responsible to ensure such an incident does not happen again. The case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of physical punishment in educational settings and the need for stricter enforcement of child safety regulations.
