Cortex DC, a company of The Chatterjee Group (TCG), on Thursday announced its entry into India's data centre sector, unveiling plans to develop 2 GW of AI-ready capacity across the country over the next seven years.

The proposed infrastructure will cater to hyperscalers, cloud service providers and advanced artificial intelligence workloads, as demand for high-performance computing rises amid the growing adoption of AI and cloud technologies.

The company has not finalised locations for its facilities but aims to make its first data centre operational within 18 months of the commencement of construction. It also plans to source 51 per cent of its energy from green sources.

An official said the platform had been under development for several months, with work on sites, power availability and partnerships already at an advanced stage. Cortex DC's strategy is built around three priorities: speed, scale and sustainable power with an accelerated development timeline intended to address the growing need for AI-ready infrastructure, high-performance computing and data capacity.

The company plans to integrate renewable energy into its infrastructure from the outset. It is supported by an established development roadmap, an experienced leadership team and a board, drawing on TCG's expertise in engineering, energy, technology and large-scale project execution.

"Cortex DC is being built in India for the globe, set up to serve both local and global customers," Chief Executive Officer Rahul Sharma said. The company aims to provide infrastructure offering the scale, resilience, power availability and connectivity required by international enterprises, cloud service providers and AI innovators, he added.

Sharma said the ambition was to establish India as a premier destination for demanding computing workloads by providing globally competitive, AI-ready infrastructure.

TCG, headquartered in New York, is a private equity and industrial holding group with more than USD 4 billion in deployed capital across petrochemicals, life sciences, technology, financial services and real estate. Its diversified portfolio spans North America, Europe and Asia. The proposed expansion comes amid rising demand for computing infrastructure to support AI applications and cloud-based services.
