Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran on Monday termed the allegations emerging from the Nashik office of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as “ gravely concerning and anguishing ”, and ordered a detailed internal investigation into the matter.

In a statement, Chandrasekaran said the complaints reported from the Nashik facility were being treated with “utmost seriousness” , adding that the company has already initiated action against those accused and is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.

A senior-level probe has been assigned under TCS Chief Operating Officer Arathi Subramanian , who has been tasked with establishing the facts, identifying lapses, and ensuring accountability. The company reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards harassment, coercion, and any form of misconduct in the workplace.

The case pertains to allegations raised by eight women employees, who have accused certain colleagues of sexual harassment, mental harassment, and coercive behaviour , including claims relating to forced religious conversion . The allegations are currently under investigation by the police and have not been proven.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by police, and several arrests have already been made as part of the ongoing criminal probe. Authorities are also examining internal records, complaints, and workplace communications to determine the sequence of events.

The incident has triggered wider concerns beyond the immediate allegations, particularly regarding the effectiveness of internal grievance redressal mechanisms and workplace safety protocols in large organisations. Questions have also been raised over whether complaints were adequately addressed at the internal level before escalating into a criminal case.

At the same time, the sensitive nature of the allegations especially those linked to religious conversion claims —has contributed to heightened public attention and scrutiny. Such issues often generate strong reactions in India, where workplace disputes involving religious elements can quickly become part of broader social and political debates.

TCS said it is committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive workplace and will implement corrective measures and process improvements based on the findings of the investigation. The company added that it will take stringent action against anyone found guilty following due process.

The matter continues to be under investigation by both internal and external authorities.
