A traditional weaver from Tamil Nadu’s Karur district has attracted attention for creating a portrait of superstar Rajinikanth on fabric using a power loom, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology ahead of the release of Jailer 2.

Prabhu, a weaver from Elavanur village near Chinnadharapuram, spent nearly two months working day and night to reproduce the actor’s image from the upcoming film. His creation also features the Jailer 2 title woven alongside Rajinikanth’s portrait. According to a regional media report, the artwork measures 63 × 17 inches and has received recognition from Nobel World Records.

Coming from a family of traditional weavers, Prabhu has been exploring innovative ways to expand the possibilities of power-loom weaving. His earlier achievement included reproducing a portrait of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar on fabric, based on a drawing made by his daughter.

Inspired by his admiration for Rajinikanth, Prabhu subsequently decided to create a portrait of the superstar. He used a photograph from Jailer 2 as the reference for his project, carefully working to reproduce the image on fabric.

Prabhu said the technology currently available enables him to produce up to five pieces of portrait fabric in a single day. He is also willing to create personalised fabric portraits using photographs supplied by members of the public and fans, including family photographs.

His primary objective is to preserve the traditional weaving industry and encourage younger generations to continue the profession by exploring innovative applications of existing technology.

Prabhu also expressed his long-standing wish to meet Rajinikanth with his family, present the actor with the specially woven fabric and receive his blessings. He plans to display the artwork at theatres screening Jailer 2.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and starring Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, Jailer 2 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15, 2026.

Prabhu’s initiative highlights how traditional craftsmanship and technological innovation can come together to create distinctive works of art while helping sustain the weaving industry for future generations.
