Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday announced a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners.

According to an official release, the DA has been raised from 58 per cent to 60 per cent , with effect from January 1, 2026 . The revision is expected to place an additional financial burden of around ₹1,230 crore per year on the state exchequer.

The government said it would make necessary budgetary allocations to meet the increased expenditure, reiterating its commitment to the welfare of government employees and teachers , as well as retired staff and their families.

The release also highlighted that Chief Minister Vijay has been taking steps to design and implement various welfare schemes for the benefit of the public. It noted that government officials and teachers play a key role not only in implementing these schemes but also in contributing to their formulation and effective execution.

The announcement comes as part of the state’s broader effort to support public sector employees amid rising living costs, while maintaining fiscal planning to accommodate welfare-oriented expenditures.
