Tamil Nadu Poll Turnout Figures to Be Updated, Gender Breakup Included
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to release the final voter turnout figures for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Saturday, including a detailed gender-wise breakdown of voters comprising male, female, and transgender electors .
Polling for the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly was conducted in a single phase on April 23 , while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4 .
A senior ECI official stated that the 85.15 per cent turnout figure announced on polling day was provisional , based on data received from a limited number of polling stations. The final turnout is being compiled after thorough verification of polling records from all constituencies.
The official explained that the exact number of votes polled at each station is recorded in Form 17C , which is currently being cross-verified with data at the ECI headquarters to ensure accuracy and transparency.
Teams of election officials have been deployed across districts since Friday to scrutinise polling data. The final turnout figures expected on Saturday will exclude postal ballots , which are tabulated separately and incorporated later into the official results.
According to preliminary data, around 4.18 lakh postal ballots have been cast across the state. These include votes from service personnel, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities .
Meanwhile, the ECI has also initiated physical inspections of all strong rooms where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units are stored. Officials will personally review security arrangements to ensure the integrity of the electoral process ahead of counting day.
The release of the final voter turnout, including gender-based participation , is expected to provide deeper insights into voter engagement across Tamil Nadu.
