Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Hugs Ajith At Silverstone As Trisha Joins The Duo At Le Mans Race
Tamil cinema witnessed a rare and emotional reunion on Saturday as Vijay and Ajith Kumar came together at Silverstone in the UK. The two superstars, who have been compared and pitted against each other for decades, shared a warm embrace that instantly became one of the biggest talking points of the weekend. Fans celebrated the moment as the “biggest day for Tamil cinema.”
The reunion took place at the Silverstone circuit on September 12 during the fifth round of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup championship. Vijay, now the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, attended the event during his UK visit and flagged off the race by waving the green flag. Ajith was competing in the LMP3 Pro/Am category for Ajith RedAnt by Virage alongside French driver Romain Vozniak. Former Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan and Aditya Patel were racing for Ajith RedAnt Racing in the LMP3 class.
Videos from the circuit showed Vijay approaching Ajith before the two shared a warm hug. The footage quickly went viral, with fans celebrating the sight of the two stars together after years of separate public appearances. Their 34 year association as colleagues in the Tamil film industry made the reunion even more special.
Ajith spoke warmly about Vijay’s new journey in politics while thanking him for making time to attend the race. He said they had been colleagues for 34 years and that he was “very happy for him” in his new role as Chief Minister. Ajith also highlighted Vijay’s interest in promoting sports and welcomed his decision to visit Silverstone to understand the infrastructure and logistics required to host events such as the Le Mans series in Chennai.
Ajith further expressed his wish to see major motorsport events come to India so that Indian racers could compete on home soil. His comments gained added significance as Vijay had recently unveiled a development roadmap for Chennai that included proposals for dedicated Olympic and motorsport cities.
Vijay also stayed at the circuit to watch Ajith’s race, with Trisha Krishnan seen alongside him at the venue. Trisha, who is in London for a film shoot, added another major Tamil cinema connection to the high profile event. Videos showed her making her way through the venue as the attention around Vijay and Ajith continued to grow.
The Silverstone weekend also saw Ajith interact with fans. In one video, he was seen asking excited fans not to scream as he stepped out of his car, using hand gestures to encourage the crowd to lower its volume. Actress Radhika Sarathkumar also met Trisha in London and wished Ajith ahead of his race, later sharing a video praising his passion, dedication and humility.
For fans, however, the race was only part of the spectacle. Vijay and Ajith sharing the same frame, their warm hug and Ajith’s heartfelt words about his longtime colleague became the defining moments of the Silverstone event.
