A powerful explosion at a firecracker manufacturing facility in Virudhunagar district has drawn sharp criticism, with Ravula Sridhar Reddy terming the incident a serious lapse in safety enforcement . The blast claimed 23 lives , raising fresh concerns about industrial safety in the region.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Sridhar Reddy expressed grief over the loss of lives and urged authorities to take firm steps to prevent such tragedies. He alleged that several units dealing with hazardous chemicals and explosives are operating without proper licenses .
He pointed out that poor adherence to safety norms continues to endanger workers, often leading to fatal consequences . Criticizing the authorities, he said governments tend to react only in the immediate aftermath of accidents, with little focus on long-term preventive action .
Calling for accountability , he urged the Government of Tamil Nadu to implement strict safety regulations and ensure such incidents are not repeated.
In response to the tragedy, Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences on social media platform X, while M. K. Stalin also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
