Tamil comedian Robo Shankar passes away at 46 due to multiorgan failure

Popular Tamil comedian and actor Robo Shankar passed away at the age of 46 on September 18, 2025, in Chennai. He had been admitted to hospital on September 16 after collapsing on the sets of his upcoming film GodsJilla and could not recover despite medical care.

Robo Shankar first gained fame with his robot-inspired dance moves on the TV show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru? , before emerging as one of Tamil cinema’s most loved comedians. He delighted audiences with memorable performances in films like Maari with Dhanush and Viswasam with Ajith Kumar, while also appearing in several Vijay films. His work made him popular not only in Tamil Nadu but also with Telugu audiences, who remember his comic role in the dubbed version of Maari .

Tributes poured in from Kamal Haasan , Karthi, and CM MK Stalin, with Dulquer Salmaan among the Malayalam stars mourning him. His funeral took place on September 19 in Chennai.
