Guntur West constituency MLA Galla Madhavi said that the talent displayed by visually impaired cricket players , who step onto the field with unwavering confidence despite losing their eyesight, is truly inspirational for society .

She inaugurated the Inter-State Blind Cricket Tournament organised by the Andhra Pradesh Blind Association at the Pichchukalagunta ground in Arundelpet, under the city’s 52nd division , on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA said that providing such sporting platforms for differently-abled individuals is highly commendable. She noted that she attended the event out of keen interest to watch blind cricket firsthand , adding that physical disability is limited only to the body , not to talent, as clearly demonstrated by the players.

She highlighted that teams from Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh participating in the tournament was a notable feature, and advised the players that determination is more important than victory or defeat .

Recalling that India’s victory in the Blind Cricket World Cup is a matter of national pride , she mentioned that players like Arjuna Award recipient Ajay have brought international recognition to blind cricket. She urged the younger generation to take inspiration from such achievers.

The MLA further stated that differently-abled sportspersons are showcasing remarkable talent on global platforms like the Paralympics and stressed the need for greater support from both the government and society for such sports.

Appreciating the efforts of the Blind Cricket Association , she called upon voluntary organisations and donors to come forward in large numbers to support the organisation of similar tournaments in the future.
