TAFE Unveiled its next-generation electric hybrid tractor

Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE), one of the world’s largest tractor manufacturers, has unveiled its next-generation electric hybrid tractor, the TAFE EVX75, while also celebrating a major global milestone as its TAFE EV28 electric tractor has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Tractor of the Year (TOTY) 2026 Award in the Sustainable Tractor category.

Along with the EVX75, TAFE introduced its vision-based guidance platform Terra 2.0 and showcased an expanded tractor lineup for European markets, including the TAFE 1015 (100+ HP), the TAFE 7515 GE (74 HP orchard model), and the TAFE 6065 Compact Series (65 HP). The company also announced its strategic shift from being solely a tractor manufacturer to becoming a complete farm-solutions provider, backed by large investments in precision AgTech, automation, smart systems, and alternate-energy platforms. The move aligns with its goal of achieving global leadership in the sub-100 HP tractor segment.

Dr. Lakshmi Venu, Vice Chairman of TAFE, said the company continues to build on its 65-year legacy of engineering excellence and innovation across global markets. Chairman and Managing Director Mallika Srinivasan added that TAFE remains committed to delivering smart, accessible, and sustainable farming solutions in line with its philosophy of “Cultivating the World.”

The newly launched EVX75 features a 75 HP hybrid powertrain combining a Stage V diesel engine with a 400 V electric battery system. It can operate in both zero-emission electric mode and hybrid mode for heavy fieldwork, lowering running costs and emissions. The tractor is equipped with a liquid-cooled high-voltage system, high-flow hydraulics, automation-ready technology, and can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h. The newly showcased lineup also includes the heavy-duty TAFE 1015 with a Stage V engine and premium cab, the lightweight TAFE 6065 Compact Series designed to minimize soil compaction, and the narrow-track TAFE 7515 GE suited for orchards, vineyards, and hilly terrains.

TAFE’s latest technologies are expected to substantially improve efficiency for farmers by addressing rising fuel prices, labour shortages, and the growing need for precision agriculture. The EVX75’s ability to operate in electric mode can significantly reduce fuel use, while Terra 2.0 enhances field accuracy and reduces input wastage. Lightweight tractor designs help protect soil health, and upgraded cabin features improve operator comfort and productivity during long working hours.

Industry trends suggest that farmers adopting hybrid and precision-enabled tractors like those unveiled by TAFE could potentially achieve a 25%–40% reduction in fuel costs, 20%–30% lower maintenance expenses, and 10%–20% savings in input usage due to improved accuracy. Overall, these innovations could translate to a 20% to 35% reduction in annual operating costs, depending on usage patterns and field conditions.

Founded in 1960 in Chennai, TAFE sells more than 200,000 tractors annually and supports over three million farmers worldwide. The company offers models ranging from 20 to 110 HP and entered the European market in 2023 with Stage V, electric, and hydrogen concept tractors. TAFE today operates a network of more than 200 dealerships across over 20 countries.
