T20 star Rinku Singh appointed regional sports officer, expresses gratitude

Indian cricketer Rinku Singh has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after being appointed as a Regional Sports Officer under the sports quota.

In a video message shared on social media, the left-handed batsman thanked the state government for the appointment and also acknowledged the financial assistance of ₹3 crore extended to him. “I thank the Uttar Pradesh government and Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for appointing me to the post of Regional Sports Officer,” Singh said.

Singh was unable to attend the appointment letter distribution ceremony on Tuesday due to commitments with his Indian Premier League (IPL) team, but he promised to visit Lucknow soon to receive the letter in person and seek the Chief Minister’s blessings.

R P Singh , Director of Sports, informed PTI that Rinku would assume duties at the sports directorate office once his schedule permits. He will be assigned responsibilities in line with his expertise, allowing him to continue contributing to Indian cricket while also undertaking administrative duties.

Rinku Singh, who was recently part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad , faced personal grief during the tournament with the passing of his father. Despite the loss, he returned to the team shortly after attending the funeral in Aligarh .

The cricketer is also engaged to Priya Saroj , a Member of Parliament from Machhlishahr representing the Samajwadi Party . During the event, Chief Minister Adityanath noted Singh’s unavoidable absence but acknowledged his enthusiasm and commitment to take on the new role.

With this appointment, Rinku Singh is poised to bridge his on-field excellence with sports administration, marking a new chapter in his journey of serving Indian cricket.
