Swiatek hits milestone at China open

Top-seeded Iga Swiatek continued her dominant run on the WTA Tour, defeating Chinese qualifier Yuan Yue 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday to reach the third round at the China Open. With the win, Swiatek became the first player in WTA history to record 25 or more victories at WTA-1000 events for three consecutive seasons.

The Wimbledon champion, who also claimed last week’s Korea Open title in Seoul, has already amassed six Grand Slam singles titles, including four French Open victories and a U.S. Open triumph. Her clinical performance against Yuan Yue showcased her trademark consistency and power, dropping just three games in the match.

In other women’s matches on Saturday, fourth-seeded Mirra Andreeva defeated Zhu Lin 6-2, 6-2, while American Emma Navarro overcame Elena-Gabriel Ruse 6-3, 7-6 (0). Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu were scheduled to play their second-round matches later in the day.

Meanwhile, the ATP 500 men’s tournament is running alongside the WTA event. Italian star Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals after a hard-fought 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 win over Frenchman Terence Atmane. Sinner, who was the U.S. Open runner-up three weeks ago to Carlos Alcaraz, had earlier cruised past Croatian veteran Marin Cilic, dropping only four games in the first round.
