Suzlon Targets 5 GW Renewable Energy Capacity In Andhra Pradesh By 2030

Renewable energy major Suzlon Group is stepping up its expansion in Andhra Pradesh, setting a target to establish 5 GW of additional renewable energy capacity in the state by 2030. The planned expansion is expected to generate nearly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, further strengthening the state’s clean energy ecosystem.

According to a company press release, Suzlon plans to develop 1,325 MW of new wind power projects in the Rayadurg constituency of Anantapur district in partnership with leading clean energy companies, including Tata Power and Waaree Energies. The projects represent an estimated investment of around ₹10,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh’s wind energy sector.

As part of the expansion, Nara Lokesh, the state’s Minister for Education, IT and Electronics, is scheduled to inaugurate Suzlon’s newly developed S144 wind blades on Tuesday at Huliker village in Kanekal mandal.

Suzlon already has more than 1,700 MW of installed wind power capacity in Andhra Pradesh, with Anantapur continuing to serve as a key operational and manufacturing hub for the company.

The company began operations in Andhra Pradesh in 2004 and has invested around ₹12,000 crore in the state so far. Its rotor blade manufacturing facility at Ippuru in Kudair mandal accounts for nearly 40% of Suzlon’s overall blade manufacturing capacity. The facility can produce blades equivalent to 1,260 MW of capacity annually and also supplies blade components for Suzlon’s ongoing wind projects with Tata Power.

Suzlon currently employs more than 2,200 people in Andhra Pradesh, while its proposed expansion is expected to create thousands of additional employment opportunities across the renewable energy value chain.

Beyond infrastructure and power generation, Suzlon is also working with the state government to build a skilled workforce for the clean energy industry. Under a joint ‘Green Skills’ training programme, young people are being trained in technical skills relevant to the renewable energy sector.

Around 12,000 young professionals are receiving training through dedicated Wind Energy Learning Centres in Vijayawada and Uravakonda. Notably, women account for 25% of the trainees, highlighting the programme’s focus on expanding women’s participation in the rapidly growing renewable energy workforce.

With its proposed 5 GW expansion, manufacturing investments and skill-development initiatives, Suzlon aims to deepen its presence in Andhra Pradesh while contributing to the state’s renewable energy ambitions and creating new economic opportunities.
