Suspected IED, Firearm Recovered in Chandigarh, Three Punjab Men Held

Chandigarh Police have recovered a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a firearm from an area behind the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Sector 43 and arrested three individuals in connection with the case, officials said.

According to sources, the suspected explosive material was concealed inside a tiffin box bag, along with a firearm. The three apprehended individuals are allegedly from Punjab. Police have registered an FIR at Sector 36 Police Station and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recovery.

A Chandigarh Police statement issued late Sunday said the three men were apprehended in connection with a case involving a suspected IED and firearm. “A suspected IED and other material have been recovered from the apprehended persons,” the statement said.

Investigators are examining the recovered material to establish its nature and determine the motive behind possessing the suspected explosive device. They are also probing the source of the firearm and explosive material and whether the accused have links to a wider criminal or extremist network.

Security measures have been strengthened around the recovery site and other key transit points in the city following the incident. Investigating agencies are examining the recovered items and gathering information about the suspects as part of the ongoing probe.
