Survey of India, IOCL collaborations to propel India’s geospatial economy by 2030
In a significant move to strengthen India’s digital mapping and geospatial ecosystem, MapmyIndia Mappls, a leading provider of digital maps, geospatial software, and IoT-based location technologies, has announced partnerships with the Survey of India and the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
According to company disclosures, these collaborations will expand MapmyIndia Mappls’ two core business lines its digital mapping platform and IoT solutions suite — and mark a major step in scaling up its government partnerships. The company is already working with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and is expected to partner with Indian Railways in upcoming projects.
Rakesh Verma, Co-founder, Chairman and Managing Director of MapmyIndia Mappls, said, “It is a proud moment for us to offer our technology and solutions to two of India’s most significant organisations the Survey of India and IOCL. These collaborations align with the government’s vision to open up and decolonise India’s geospatial sector, which aims to build a ₹1 lakh crore industry by 2030.”
The tie-up with the Survey of India focuses on building the National Geo-Platform, powered by MapmyIndia Mappls’ advanced mapping technology. The system will integrate and manage multiple datasets including digital maps, elevation models, satellite imagery, and administrative boundaries and make this data easily accessible to government departments, academia, and industries via APIs and mobile applications. The platform will include a Geospatial Data Integration and Dissemination System, an Integrated Geospatial Application Interface, and a Spatial Data Registry to ensure interoperability, innovation, and secure data sharing.
Additionally, the collaboration will help accelerate India’s Geospatial Data Infrastructure, enabling real-time decision-making for sectors such as transportation, disaster management, urban planning, and environmental monitoring. By creating a unified mapping backbone, it aims to support evidence-based governance and faster infrastructure development.
Importantly, these initiatives are expected to leverage India’s indigenous satellite navigation system, NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation). Integration of NavIC signals with MapmyIndia’s mapping and IoT platforms will enhance real-time accuracy, data security, and coverage within India. This step not only promotes technological self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission but also reduces dependence on foreign systems like GPS, strengthening India’s strategic digital sovereignty.
Separately, the company has signed a five-year contract with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) valued at approximately ₹110.19 crore, as per its National Stock Exchange (NSE) disclosure. Under this project, MapmyIndia Mappls will deploy a Centralised Vehicle Tracking and Management System to monitor IOCL’s nationwide LPG truck fleet, covering nearly 23,000 vehicles across 150 supply locations. The system includes geofencing, route optimisation, risk management, and real-time monitoring to boost safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
The government’s vision of achieving a ₹1 lakh crore geospatial economy by 2030 is expected to be driven by:
Public infrastructure and smart city initiatives, including major national programs such as Gati Shakti and Digital India, are driving the expansion of geospatial technologies across the country. Defence, transportation, and urban planning continue to be the leading sectors in this space, contributing to over half of the industry’s current growth. At the same time, emerging fields such as agriculture, logistics, banking and financial services (BFSI), and e-commerce are increasingly incorporating geospatial tools to improve efficiency and decision-making. The export of geospatial services is also rising, supported by private-sector innovation that leverages artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and advanced mapping APIs. Additionally, government-led platforms such as the National Geo-Platform are playing a critical role by standardising and integrating spatial data, making it more widely accessible for public and commercial use.
MapmyIndia Mappls said these collaborations reaffirm its commitment to the Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions, positioning India as a global hub for geospatial innovation, NavIC adoption, and advanced mapping technology by the end of the decade.
