Suriya’s 'Vishwanath & Sons' Overtakes Ravi Teja’s 'Irumudi' In Netflix Global Top 10
Suriya’s 'Vishwanath & Sons' has pulled off a surprising turnaround on Netflix, overtaking Ravi Teja’s 'Irumudi' on the latest Global Top 10 chart for Non-English Films. The shift comes just a week after 'Irumudi' dominated the rankings by claiming the No. 1 position worldwide.
According to Netflix’s latest figures for September 28 to October 4, 'Vishwanath & Sons' has secured the No. 7 spot with 1.2 million views, while 'Irumudi' has slipped to No. 9 with 1.1 million views. The Suriya-starrer registered 3.3 million viewing hours during the week, compared with 2.7 million hours for 'Irumudi'.
The turnaround becomes more striking when compared with the previous week. From September 21 to 27, 'Irumudi' was the global leader among non-English films, recording 3.4 million views and 8.1 million viewing hours. 'Vishwanath & Sons', meanwhile, was at No. 5 with 2.1 million views and 5.7 million viewing hours.
'Irumudi' has therefore witnessed a dramatic 66.67 per cent week-on-week fall in views, dropping from 3.4 million to 1.1 million. 'Vishwanath & Sons' also declined, but its drop was comparatively smaller at 42.11 per cent, allowing Suriya’s film to move ahead globally.
The two films also have an interesting OTT history. 'Vishwanath & Sons', directed by Venky Atluri and starring Suriya, Mamitha Baiju and Radikaa Sarathkumar, arrived on Netflix on September 10. 'Irumudi', directed by Shiva Nirvana and featuring Ravi Teja, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Sai Kumar, followed on September 17. Both films are available in multiple Indian languages on the platform.
Interestingly, the Indian Netflix rankings present an even stronger picture for 'Vishwanath & Sons', which has taken the No. 1 spot in India, with 'Irumudi' at No. 2.
'Irumudi' had earlier created considerable buzz by topping Netflix’s global non-English movie chart in its second week of streaming, while 'Vishwanath & Sons' had also maintained a strong presence in the Top 10.
With both films still holding places in the global chart, the big question now is whether 'Vishwanath & Sons' can maintain its momentum or 'Irumudi' can stage another comeback next week.
