Actor Suriya’s upcoming film Karuppu has locked its overseas theatrical rights, with Phars Film acquiring distribution for international markets. The makers have also announced a worldwide theatrical release on May 14, 2026.

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu marks his first major collaboration with a top-tier star. The film features Trisha Krishnan alongside Suriya, supported by a strong ensemble cast. Industry sources indicate that the project is positioned as a commercial entertainer blending action, emotional drama, and mass appeal.

Balaji reportedly began writing the script in August 2023 and initially pitched it to Vijay before reworking the narrative to suit Suriya’s screen persona. The film is said to feature high-energy sequences, engaging interval blocks, and a climactic stretch inspired by classic Tamil cinema, particularly Padayappa. Rooted in South Indian cultural elements, the narrative is designed to resonate with a broader, pan-Indian audience.

The technical team includes newcomer Sai Abhyankkar as music composer, while cinematography is handled by GK Vishnu, raising expectations for both soundtrack and visual scale.

Meanwhile, Suriya is also expanding his footprint in Telugu cinema with Vishwanth and Sons , where he is set to star alongside Mamita Baiju . The project is currently in development stages, with pre-production underway and casting nearing completion. Positioned as a bilingual venture targeting Telugu and Tamil audiences, the film is expected to further strengthen Suriya’s presence in the pan-South Indian market.

With Karuppu gearing up for a mid-May release and parallel projects progressing across industries, Suriya continues to consolidate his position as one of the most versatile and bankable stars in contemporary Indian cinema.
