Suriya’s ‘Karuppu’ likely to hit screens on May 15 after Tamil Nadu polls

Actor Suriya’s upcoming action drama Karuppu is reportedly planning a worldwide theatrical release on May 15, 2026 , shortly after the polling in Tamil Nadu scheduled for April 23 . While the makers have not officially confirmed the date, trade circles suggest the timing has been strategically chosen to avoid restrictions on film promotions during the election period.

Producer S. R. Prabhu had earlier hinted that major announcements regarding the film would be made only after the election schedule was announced. Industry observers believe the team wants to steer clear of any promotional hurdles that could arise due to the Model Code of Conduct during the campaign season.

Karuppu is said to feature Suriya in a dual role , portraying both an advocate and a vigilante , adding to the intrigue around the project. The film has already generated significant buzz following the release of its teaser, which recreated the iconic tattoo sequence reminiscent of the actor’s 2005 blockbuster Ghajini.
