Super Over Shock! LSG Collapse as KKR Steal Thriller Pant Seeks Reset
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant admitted that the team “definitely need a break” after suffering a Super Over defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.
LSG slipped to the bottom of the points table , registering their fifth consecutive loss and sixth defeat in eight matches.
“We definitely need a break; I think we are going to get refreshed. There is always pressure and it is going to be a pressure game, but at the same time, we have to look for answers inside, not outside and just keep it simple,” Pant said at the post-match presentation.
The match swung dramatically after LSG had KKR in trouble at 93/7 , but Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 83 revived the visitors and shifted momentum.
Chasing 156, LSG lost wickets at crucial stages but a last-ball six from Mohammed Shami pushed the contest into a Super Over. However, LSG collapsed in the tie-breaker, managing just 1/2 , the lowest-ever Super Over score , as KKR sealed a dramatic win.
Pant stressed the need for collective accountability. “Just take accountability, each and every guy; it can’t be about one or two players. It has to be about the whole unit,” he said.
He also revealed that Nicholas Pooran was discussed as the Super Over option despite his poor form.
“You trust your player in a hard situation like this,” Pant added.
The LSG skipper reiterated that a break could help the side recover. “There might not be enough positives right now, but after the break, there will be a lot of positives for sure,” he said.
Meanwhile, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane said their experience of playing at Ekana Stadium during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy helped them judge conditions.
“We felt 155 was a good score. After 16 overs, Rinku’s innings was amazing and shifted momentum towards us,” Rahane said.
He credited his bowlers, including Sunil Narine , Kartik Tyagi , and Vaibhav Arora , for executing plans well on a surface where hitting spinners was difficult.
Star performer Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten 83 off 51 balls (7 fours, 5 sixes), took four catches , and hit the winning runs in the Super Over.
“When four wickets fell, I focused on taking the game deep and keeping the scoreboard moving,” Rinku said.
