Sunny Leone’s new year event in Mathura cancelled following seers’ objections

Actor Sunny Leone’s New Year programme in Mathura was cancelled after local seers raised objections, prompting organisers to call off the event. Leone was scheduled to perform as a DJ on January 1 at a bar in the temple town.

According to Dinesh Falahari of Sri Krishna Janambhumi Sangharsh Nyas , “We have written to the District Magistrate. Lord Krishna performed his ‘leela’ here, and seers visit to offer prayers. Inviting Sunny Leone to such a sacred place could defame Brij Bhoomi and Sanatan Dharma. Such programmes could propagate vulgarity and must be kept away from this holy land.”

Mithul Pathak , partner at The Trunk Bar and one of the organisers, responded to the concerns, saying, “Considering the emotions of local seers, we decided to cancel Sunny Leone’s programme. Ticket refunds have been initiated. There was misinformation—she was coming only to perform as a DJ, and entry was restricted through tickets.”

Pathak added that Leone performs across India and questioned whether similar opposition is faced elsewhere.The cancellation marks a rare clash between entertainment events and religious sentiments in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, as organisers and authorities navigated local sensitivities.
