Rising child actor Sukriti Veni Bandreddi bagged the Best Child Artist award at the 71st National Film Awards for her stellar performance in the Telugu drama Gandhi Tatha Chettu .

Directed by Padmavathi Malladi, the film follows a 13-year-old girl, Gandhi (played by Sukriti), who upholds Gandhian principles in her village. When a minister’s spokesperson pressures villagers to sell their land for a chemical factory, Gandhi, inspired by her late grandfather, courageously fights to protect a cherished tree. Her non-violent struggle and determination form the heart of the narrative.

Gandhi Tatha Chettu premiered at the Minsk International Film Festival in November 2024 and was released theatrically in India on January 24, 2025, later becoming available on Amazon Prime Video and ETV Win. Critics praised the film for its heartfelt storytelling and Sukriti’s remarkable performance. Sangeetha Devi Dundoo of The Hindu described it as “a heartfelt tribute to Gandhian principles and rural innocence,” while BH Harsh of The New Indian Express highlighted its emotional and wholesome appeal.

Sukriti’s award marks a significant achievement in her budding acting career, earning her recognition at a national level and establishing her as one of the most promising young talents in Indian cinema.
