
Suicide car bomb at police station kills five, injures 13 in northwest Pakistan
A suicide car bomb attack targeting a police station in Domel tehsil of Bannu district , Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killed five people , including four members of the same family , and injured 13 others late Thursday, police said.
According to authorities, the bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the rear side of the police station, triggering a powerful blast heard miles away. The explosion caused widespread panic among residents, and gunfire erupted immediately afterward, further intensifying fear in the area.
Among the deceased are a husband, wife, daughter, and son, highlighting the devastating human toll of the attack. Four police personnel were also among those wounded. Rescue and emergency teams rushed to the scene to retrieve bodies and assist the injured. Several nearby homes sustained significant damage from the blast.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, expressing deep sorrow at the loss of civilian lives. Police confirmed that the station appeared to be the primary target .
No group immediately claimed responsibility. The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) denied involvement, with spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani alleging that the blast was orchestrated by state institutions to turn residents against militants and create divisions within the community.
Authorities have yet to respond to these claims, and investigations are ongoing. The incident underscores the continuing security challenges in northwest Pakistan, with communities on edge as officials work to assess the full impact of the attack.
