Sudharsan's Ton Not Enough as Kohli-Padikkal Duo Powers RCB Past GT by 5 Wickets
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was a cauldron of noise on Friday night as Royal Challengers Bengaluru pulled off a commanding five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans, chasing down a stiff 206-run target with more than seven balls to spare in Match 34 of IPL 2026.
Gujarat Titans, asked to bat first by Rajat Patidar, got off to a blazing start, posting 57 in the powerplay , largely thanks to a masterclass from Sai Sudharsan . Shubman Gill fell for 32 to Suyash Sharma, but Sudharsan powered on to a brilliant century off just 58 balls , studded with 11 fours and 5 sixes , his first IPL hundred of the season. Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar chipped in with handy cameos, but RCB’s bowlers managed to restrict GT to 205/3 , a total that felt formidable but not out of reach at this ground.
The chase began with intent. Virat Kohli , in imperious touch, pulled Rashid Khan for a six to bring up his 300th IPL maximum , a milestone matched only by Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle in the tournament’s history. Kohli eventually fell for a scintillating 81 off 44 balls , bowled by Jason Holder.
At the other end, Devdutt Padikkal was equally explosive, striking cleanly through the off-side and taking on the pace attack with fearless intent. GT briefly fought back with quick wickets, removing Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar in a short burst, but Tim David and Krunal Pandya steadied the innings under pressure.
RCB finally crossed the line at 206/5 in 18.5 overs , sealing a five-wicket win and sending the home crowd into celebrations. With this victory, RCB ended their final home league game at the Chinnaswamy in style, strengthening their position as strong contenders this season. Gujarat Titans, despite Sudharsan’s brilliance, will head back with concerns to address ahead of the knockouts.
