Steel Exchange India Limited (SEIL) achieved its highest-ever quarterly re-bar production in the July-September period, with a newly operational reheating furnace helping raise output as the company works to strengthen its raw material sourcing through a proposed agreement with state-owned NMDC.

The company produced 25,095 tonnes of reinforcing bars in September, surpassing its previous monthly record of 24,824 tonnes in August. Output stood at 19,698 tonnes in July. Total production for the September quarter reached a record 69,617 tonnes, according to industry reports.

The new reheating furnace contributed 7,417 tonnes to September production, highlighting the role of additional processing capacity in the company's operational expansion.

SEIL also reported provisional consolidated revenue of approximately ₹340 crore for the July–September quarter, representing an increase of around 46% year-on-year and 25.6% from the preceding quarter, according to Sahi Markets. Final financial results will be needed to assess whether higher production and revenue have translated into improved profitability.

Part of the Vizag Profiles Group, SEIL operates an integrated steel plant at Sreerampuram in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, near Visakhapatnam. Its products include TMT reinforcing bars marketed under the SIMHADRI TMT brand, which are used in construction and infrastructure projects.

The company signed a four-year, non-exclusive and non-binding memorandum of understanding with NMDC on September 8 to establish a framework for sourcing iron ore fines containing 61–63% or higher iron content from the miner's upcoming Visakhapatnam facility. Actual supplies will depend on definitive agreements between the parties.

The proposed arrangement could help SEIL manage raw material sourcing and logistics as production expands, although supply volumes and cost savings have not been disclosed.

In a further financial development, Infomerics upgraded the company's long-term credit rating to IVR BBB+/Stable in September.

India produced 164.9 million tonnes of crude steel in 2025, ranking second globally behind China. For SEIL, sustaining its production gains will depend on demand, input costs and the ability to convert higher output into stronger financial performance.
