Telangana BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy strongly condemned the burning of a copy of the Delimitation Bill by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin . He alleged that the DMK is strategically encouraging these protests with an eye on the Assembly elections scheduled in Tamil Nadu next week.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Shashidhar Reddy said that creating misconceptions about the delimitation bill is a politically motivated act. He clarified that the Centre’s proposed increase in constituencies would not disturb the existing allocation of Lok Sabha seats based on the 1971 Census .

He further stated that the decision to increase seats by 50 per cent across all states was aimed at implementing the long-pending 33 per cent reservation for women . Criticising the previous Congress-led UPA government, he said the women’s reservation bill had stalled due to a lack of political will .

“As a proud South Indian, I welcome the Centre’s proposal to add additional seats without altering the current state-wise seat distribution,” Shashidhar Reddy said.

The son of former united Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Marri Chenna Reddy , he also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership on this issue. He asserted that claims of injustice to southern states were misleading and intended to confuse the public .
