Former Minister V. Srinivas Goud has demanded that the government immediately set up more procurement centres to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience during the paddy procurement process.

On Friday, he visited a paddy procurement centre established at Hanwada mandal headquarters in Mahabubnagar district and reviewed the ground-level situation. During his visit, he enquired about weighing procedures, quality checks , and the facilities being provided to farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, he urged the government to establish procurement centres closer to every village so that farmers can sell their produce without difficulty. He pointed out that delays in procurement are causing significant hardship to farmers. He also alleged that farmers are being unnecessarily pressured in the name of moisture content , and that excessive deductions are being made under the pretext of quality cuts.

He further stated that delayed payments after the sale of paddy are pushing farmers into financial distress. In some cases, farmers are reportedly waiting for days at procurement centres, yet their produce is not being purchased. Meanwhile, unexpected rains are damaging the paddy, leading to further losses.

Srinivas Goud demanded that the government ensure fair prices, timely payments , and adequate basic infrastructure at procurement centres to safeguard farmers’ interests.
