Sri Veerabrahmendra Swami’s ancient home collapses due to heavy rain in Kadapa

T he ancient residence associated with Sri Sri Sri Veerabrahmendra Swami in YSR Kadapa district was reported to have collapsed following continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days. The incident occurred amid widespread showers caused by the Montha cyclone’s impact in the region.

District Collector Dr. Sridhar Cherukuri visited the site on Wednesday night along with officials from various departments and conducted an inspection. The condition of the structure and the extent of damage were reviewed, and detailed information was collected from officers of the Revenue and Endowments Departments, temple administrators, and the caretakers of Brahmam Garu’s residence.

It was stated by the District Collector that the residence, constructed between 1978 and 1979 using traditional materials such as mud, slate, and wooden pillars, had weakened due to persistent rainfall. The moisture and prolonged exposure to rain were said to have caused the wooden supports to deteriorate, leading to the eventual collapse of the structure.

Assurance was given by Dr. Cherukuri that the damaged residence would be reconstructed with the cooperation of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), a national organization dedicated to the conservation of India’s architectural and cultural heritage. It was explained that the restoration would be carried out using the same type of materials that were used in the original construction to retain the traditional architectural character of the building.

It was further informed that guidance from special architects and the Dharmic Parishad would be sought during the reconstruction process to ensure that the sanctity and heritage of the site were preserved. The sentiments of devotees were said to be fully respected while rebuilding the structure in its original style.

The District Administration also stated that preventive measures would be taken to protect the nearby temple premises and other heritage structures within the area from additional damage that might occur due to the ongoing rainfall.

Officials added that efforts were being coordinated across departments to assess structural safety at other heritage and religious sites in the district that may have been affected by the severe weather conditions. The administration reiterated that safety inspections and conservation planning would continue in partnership with heritage experts and the Endowments Department.

The residence of Sri Veerabrahmendra Swami, regarded as a significant spiritual and historical landmark in the district, has long been visited by devotees from across Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states. The administration emphasized that all reconstruction efforts would be aimed at restoring the structure to its original form while maintaining its cultural authenticity and historical integrity.
