Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Aamarasuriya will be on a three-day visit to India

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya will embark on her first official visit to India from October 16 to 18, 2025, highlighting the deepening bilateral ties between the two nations .she is coming to attend the NDTV World Summit 2025 in New Delhi.

During her stay, PM Amarasuriya will hold high-level discussions with Indian leaders, exploring collaboration in education, technology, trade, and regional security. She is expected to visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and NITI Aayog to discuss opportunities in innovation, digital transformation, and educational partnerships.

A key highlight is her participation in the NDTV World Summit 2025 in New Delhi on October 17–18, co-hosted by NDTV and the Chintan Research Foundation. The summit will bring together global leaders and influential thinkers, including Indian PM Narendra Modi, former UK PM Rishi Sunak, former Australian PM Tony Abbott, Bhutanese PM Dasho Tshering Tobgay, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Nobel laureate Prof. Paul Romer. This platform will allow PM Amarasuriya to present Sri Lanka’s priorities and explore multilateral collaborations.

As a former Education Minister of Sri Lanka, she will visit her alma mater, Hindu College at Delhi University, where she completed her BA in Sociology on an Indian government scholarship, underscoring the long-standing educational and cultural ties between the two countries.

The visit also comes in the context of political and economic challenges Sri Lanka faced prior to her term, including governance and financial issues. India continues to stand as a supportive neighbor and strategic partner, committed to stability and collaboration with Sri Lanka through shared values, culture, and regional interests.India provided emergency financial aid and concessional loans to help Sri Lanka stabilize its economy during the 2022 crisis, including credit lines for essential imports like fuel, medicine, and food.India has also invested in Sri Lanka’s infrastructure projects, such as the reconstruction of the Kankesanthurai Harbor and providing funding and expertise for roads, power, and irrigation projects, strengthening trade and connectivity between the two countries.

PM Amarasuriya will additionally engage with the business community to boost trade and commercial links, strengthening economic and people-to-people connections. Earlier this month, she paid floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Colombo, honoring his legacy and highlighting the enduring friendship between India and Sri Lanka.
