Sri Lankan PM explores school collaboration in Delhi

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on Friday visited Sarvodaya Co-Ed Vidyalaya in Rohini, accompanied by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood. The visit aimed to showcase Delhi’s modern school infrastructure, innovative teaching methods, and digital learning environment.

During the visit, both sides discussed potential areas of collaboration, including teacher training, vocational education, and sustainability initiatives in schools. A proposed “Delhi-Colombo Education Bridge” seeks to promote student and teacher exchange programmes and foster partnerships in sustainable school design, innovation, and youth leadership.

Sood briefed the Sri Lankan prime minister on the transformative changes in Delhi’s public education system, highlighting state-of-the-art infrastructure, smart classrooms, modern teaching techniques, and advanced digital learning platforms. In a post on X, he described the visit as a “meaningful opportunity for interaction with students and teachers, reflecting the shared belief that education is the foundation of progress and partnership.”

Amarasuriya interacted with students and teachers, observing classroom activities and student projects. She expressed admiration for Delhi’s innovative education model, noting that it could inspire other developing nations.

The visit underscored the Delhi government’s commitment to building “Schools of the 21st Century,” focusing on sustainability, happiness, research, and innovation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Adding a symbolic touch, both Amarasuriya and Sood, along with Chief Minister Gupta, are alumni of Delhi University. The visit is expected to strengthen educational cooperation and dialogue between India and Sri Lanka.
