SRH Seal IPL 2026 Playoff Spot With Dominant Win Over CSK in Chennai

Sunrisers Hyderabad kept their IPL 2026 campaign alive and officially sealed a playoff berth with a composed five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, successfully chasing down a target of 181 with an over to spare.

CSK won the toss and elected to bat, and it was Sanju Samson who provided the early fireworks, smashing 27 off 13 balls with five fours and a six before being caught off Pat Cummins . Despite that blazing start, the innings lost its way in the middle overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad , the CSK skipper , was frustratingly slow at the crease, managing just 15 off 21 balls , before Cummins trapped him in the 12th over. Cummins was the standout bowler, returning brilliant figures of 3 for 28 in four overs, constantly beating the bat and keeping CSK's middle order in check.

It was Dewald Brevis who rescued CSK from a potentially underwhelming total, muscling 44 off 27 balls , including three sixes, to inject much-needed momentum. A gritty late contribution from Kartik Sharma ( 32 off 19 ) ensured CSK posted a competitive 180/7 .

In the chase, Ishan Kishan was the undisputed cornerstone of SRH's reply. The wicketkeeper-batter batted with remarkable composure, anchoring the innings with a match-winning 70 off 47 balls and stitching crucial partnerships as wickets tumbled around him. Heinrich Klaasen played a blistering 47 off 26 to give the chase serious momentum, while Abhishek Sharma and Nithish Kumar Reddy chipped in to keep the asking rate under control.

When Kishan fell in the 19th over, nerves briefly crept in, but Salil Arora kept his cool to see SRH home at 181/5 with an over to spare.

The result confirmed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s qualification for the IPL 2026 playoffs , taking them to 16 points from 13 matches and strengthening their hopes of a top-two finish . For Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, it was another painful home defeat in a disappointing campaign.
