Speed Up Amaravati Construction Works, Says AP CM
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the construction of the state capital Amaravati should not be seen as just a contract job, but as a historic opportunity to be part of a landmark project.
On Saturday, he held a detailed review meeting at his camp office with officials and representatives of construction firms to assess the progress of works in the greenfield capital. Projects worth about ₹57,821 crore are currently in various stages, and he directed that the pace of work be accelerated so that inaugurations can be conducted by the Prime Minister.
Officials informed that projects worth ₹50,943 crore have already been taken up, with around 20,000 workers and experts engaged at the ground level. However, the Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress of some agencies. He set a target of completing works worth ₹941 crore every week and instructed that weekly and monthly targets must be strictly followed.
Responding to contractors’ concerns about labour shortages due to elections in other states, he advised them to make maximum use of local skilled workers and increase the use of machinery.
The Chief Minister also focused on key buildings such as the Assembly, High Court, and Secretariat, along with trunk infrastructure, LPS facilities, housing, and road works. He assured that there is no shortage of funds for the capital, but stressed that there should be no compromise on quality or cost control. He called for the use of green energy and modern technology to develop Amaravati as a model capital.
Expressing anger over recent fire accidents in the capital region, he said negligence in safeguarding construction materials was leading to criticism of the government. He ordered the appointment of capable project managers to prevent such incidents.
He also directed the collectors of Krishna district, Guntur district, and NTR district to ensure uninterrupted supply of sand and gravel and to take strict action against those causing disruptions .
Reiterating his commitment, the Chief Minister urged everyone to work with dedication to complete the capital within the stipulated timeframe.
