Special Intensive Revision Exercise to Start in Telangana from April
Telangana has begun extensive preparations for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls scheduled to commence in April, following directives from the Election Commission of India . The exercise aims to improve voter list accuracy by enrolling all eligible voters , removing duplicate entries , deleting ineligible names , and correcting errors to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process . State Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy has intensified preparatory efforts to ensure the revision is carried out efficiently, describing the initiative as part of a nationwide effort to keep voter databases updated amid migration, urban expansion, and demographic changes.
To strengthen ground-level implementation, the CEO’s office has accelerated training programmes for Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) responsible for roll management. An online training session conducted from the Hyderabad office brought together officials from Medchal-Malkajgiri, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, and Hyderabad districts, with 195 officers receiving guidance on enrolment procedures, data verification, corrections, and deletions. Officials were instructed to strictly follow ECI guidelines and complete the revision within the stipulated timeline. Reddy emphasized that AEROs play a critical role in maintaining the credibility of the democratic process .
As part of the revision exercise, Booth Level Officers will carry out field verification , including door-to-door visits where necessary, to confirm voter details and distribute forms. Citizens will be able to submit claims and objections to add, remove, or correct entries. Authorities noted that urban areas may pose logistical challenges due to high mobility and migration, requiring systematic verification to prevent exclusion of genuine voters.
Officials stressed that preserving the integrity , accuracy, and reliability of voter rolls is essential to ensuring free and fair elections . The preparatory training and administrative measures are part of broader efforts to strengthen the election machinery and reinforce public trust in the state’s electoral system.
