SP MP Ajendra Lodhi Booked Over “Anti-National” Remark Against PM Modi
Ajendra Singh Lodhi has been booked in Mahoba for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest over electricity-related issues, police said on Tuesday.
The case was registered on Monday night under Sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant), 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 196(1) (promoting enmity), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to police, the complaint was filed by BJP district media in-charge Satyendra Pratap Gupta , who alleged that Lodhi’s remarks hurt public sentiments and promoted caste hostility.
The controversy erupted after Lodhi, along with his supporters, marched to a government office and submitted an 11-point memorandum to the Power Department regarding prolonged power cuts, electricity supply issues, and complaints related to smart meters.
Speaking to reporters after the memorandum submission, Lodhi criticised Modi’s appeal urging citizens to exercise restraint in gold and fuel consumption. In that context, the MP allegedly used abusive language against the Prime Minister and called him a “ desh-virodhi (anti-national) ” leader. He also questioned Modi’s foreign visits, claiming the country had “never seen such a prime minister.”
A purported video of the remarks later surfaced on social media and quickly drew political backlash.
Gupta also accused the Samajwadi Party MP and his supporters of causing traffic disruption and obstructing government work during the protest march.
Reacting strongly to the incident, Yogi Adityanath said the remarks were “unparliamentary,” “unforgivable,” and against democratic values. He added that such conduct reflected a “bad political culture” and disrespect toward public life.
No arrest had been reported in the case till Tuesday evening.
